Ongoing trade tensions, tariffs, transportation disruptions, and fluctuations in copper and aluminum pricing are all contributing to material costs throughout the electrical industry.  

Planning ahead, maintaining strong supplier relationships, and leveraging distributor inventory availability can help minimize project disruption and reduce exposure to sudden pricing shifts that are a result of this volatility.

Market Outlook

• Tariff Update

  • Earlier this year, many of the emergency tariffs implemented in 2025 were invalidated. That’s because the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that “reciprocal” tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act exceeded presidential authority.
  • Following that ruling, the administration implemented a temporary 10% surcharge on many imported goods. However, those tariffs were ruled unlawful in May — and that ruling is currently under appeal.
  • The U.S. continues to pursue tariffs on steel and aluminum as well as tariffs related to unfair trade practices, all of which affect raw material and manufactured product pricing across a variety of industries.
  • International negotiations remain fluid, with the U.S., European Union, Canada, and China engaged in discussions focused on stabilizing global commerce.
  • Looking ahead, most economists and supply chain analysts expect continued pricing volatility throughout the rest of this year.
